The cathedral of Santa Mar�a, which was begun in the 14th century, is a mixed bag of Renaissance and Baroque architecture and took 300 years to complete but is a must-see building when you have bought your property in Murcia Spain. The Glorieta, next to the Segura River, is traditionally the centre of the town. This a pleasant landscaped square, built in the 18th century. Pedestrian areas cover most of the old town, centred around Calle Plater�a and Calle de la Traper�a. The Casino, a social club opened i n 1847, has a sumptuous interior.

Murcia's history makes it an excellent opportunity for property investment in Murcia. The City was founded by Abd ar-Rahman II in 825AD as part of the Caliphate of C�rdoba. Following the Reconquest, King Alfonso X (the Wise) spent long periods of time here in the late 13th century and granted the city many privileges. Murcia prospered through the 15th century as its famous irrigation system in the huerta (orchards) neared completion and the trades, which today give their name to the streets of the historic quarter, flourished.
