Vejer
Vejer de la Frontera always features near the top of any list of Spain's most beautiful pueblos. Its location is spectacular, sitting high above the Barbate river gorge, a few kilometres inland from the Costa del a Luz and offering vistas as far as the distant mountains of Ronda. But the town itself is the white icing on the cake. Vejer actually occupies two hills split by a stream bed but the old town, with its Moorish street plan, whitewashed houses and glimpses of castle walls, is what draws the eye. Visitors can wander happily along the tidy, cobbled streets or through the pretty plazas, oblivious to the wide open spaces beyond the town walls. Vejer may have been insular in the past but it's a different tale nowadays. The town embraces visitors, feeding them well and offering a wide choice of excellent places to stay. The whole pueblo seems imbued with a sense of quiet welcome and a feeling that the history and traditions of this ancient settlement are never far away.
